We can't wait to have you as part of the Blue Ridge Service Corps program based in the Asheville area of ​​Western North Carolina. Our program is open to all young adults in their 20s hoping to serve in an intentional community.

The EXPERIANCE

What should I expect?

 

Location:

Housing is provided in Hendersonville, NC and program placements will range from Hendersonville, NC to  Asheville, NC

Dates:

January 8, 2025 - May 23, 2025 (half) or July 7, 2025 to May 22, 2026 (full)

Those interested in a half year will be given the opportunity to stay through May 2026. 

Commitment 

  • 32 hours of work a week at a local non-profit partner. Typically Tuesday through Friday.  Daily schedule will be determined by the non-profit partner. 

    • Visit our Site Placements page to learn more about past site placements. Site assignments will be discerned by the Blue Ridge Service Corp Director with input from participants and site supervisors.

  • A commitment to the program and the non-profit site for nine months or if starting in Jan., five months. 

  • Engage in the building of an intentional community with participants and other young adults 

  • A willingness to explore spiritual, vocational, and personal discernment.

  • Participation in weekly Community Days, aimed at spiritual, personal, educational, and professional growth

  • We strongly encourage Fellows to bring a car if they are able. A car is not a program requirement, and accommodations can be made.

Benefits:

Free Housing in Hendersonville, NC

Fellows share a four bedroom, two bath home in Hendersonville, NC that is roughly 2000 square feet. Fellows each have a private room, but will be asked to share a bathroom and living space.  The home is located on 12 acres of land where nature abounds, but is conveniently located (2 minutes) from Walmart, Sams, local grocery stores  and fast food restaurants such as Dunkin, Chick-Fil- La,  Sonic and Cook Out. Local restaurants are roughly 10 minutes away in downtown Hendersonville. 

 

Living Stipend - $1000 a month

You are provided with a monthly stipend to cover your living costs. It is strongly encouraged that members of the intentional community pool some of their resources, which could include creating a community budget for food or group activities.

 

Health and Wellness Support

BRSC is committed to offering up to $500 in support of your health and wellness-related expenses incurred throughout the program year. This could look like reimbursement for medical bill or prescription, yoga classes, counseling or therapy, or any unexpected life expense like a broken down car. 

 

Intentional Community

You will work together with Fellows to draft a community covenant, which will guide your life as a community, helping establish expectations around spiritual life, housekeeping responsibilities, and cultivating relationships with one another. In a hyper-individualistic culture, we ask you to lean into community, challenging yourself build relationships, beyond just being a roommate, with each other. 

 

Job and Life Skills Development

As a part of your term of service, you will gain valuable work experience with your local non-profit placement. As the year develops, you will work with site leadership to learn how to share your experience on your resume and ways to leverage your skills as you prepare for whatever may be next in your journey. Corps members have the opportunity to take non-profit classes, free of charge, through WNC Pathways.

Community Days 

Blue Ridge Service Corps sets aside a regular once-per-week community day together, an opportunity to dive deeper into the program’s values of  Hospitality, Collaboration, Compassion, Gratitude, Resiliency, Integrity, Courage, Discernment, and Generosity,  Some community days will be all-day excursions, while others will be morning gatherings. For instance, a book study, spiritual practices, a hike in the woods, a black history tour of Downtown Asheville, a lunch with a mentor, a day of volunteer service, or more.  

 

Vocational Discernment

Blue Ridge Service Corps will provide resources to help you engage in the deep work of uncovering the movement of the Spirit in your life. Our goal is that by the end of your term of service, you have built a toolbox of vocational practices that can serve you for the rest of your life and have a deeper understanding of where your passions and career align together. 

 

A Mid-Year Retreat

Blue Ridge Service Corps will facilitate an off-site retreat in Dec. of your program experience to allow space to reflect and build community with other young adults.

Where will I live?

The Folwell House

The Folwell House at La Capilla de Santa Maria in Hendersonville, NC is a 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom house that sits on almost 12 acres of land and is on the same property as our Latino Mission Church, La Capilla de Santa Maria.

The house located within 5 minutes of Walmart, Ingles Grocery, chain restaurants, and coffee shops. Downtown Hendersonville is 10 minutes away, where you will find locally-owned restaurants, coffee shops, and micro-breweries.
